Through this visual and interactive tour, we would like to share several moments of joy, learning and positive impact experienced during the dance workshops carried out in three prisons in the department of La Paz: the Qalauma Youth Social Reintegration Center, the Obrajes Women’s Orientation Center and the Miraflores Women’s Orientation Center.
In the aggregate, 245 young people and women deprived of liberty actively participated in these spaces of well-being, recovery and reparation. Through body movement and Afro-Latin dances, they not only experienced a form of connection and expression, but also had the opportunity to approach other cultures through music from different latitudes..

These actions also seek to make visible that, although people deprived of liberty have lost their right to free movement, the rest of their rights must be respected and protected in prison environments. These, often constituted as «torture spaces», lack a comprehensive approach to social reintegration and do not take into account the rehabilitation of the biopsychosocial sequelae that derive from the conditions of incarceration.
Thanks to the support of E-changer and the cooperant Soraya Gautier Guillet, who served as the dance instructor, ITEI was able to execute this project and aims to amplify its impact by reaching a larger prison population.
